V&A Palmers Silk FINE CHINA CREAMER Milk Jug
V&A
SKU: 5050993272903
This exquisite fine china creamer is from the Palmers Silk collection by V&A. The dusty indigo motifs of each Palmers Silk piece combine vintage blue florals and tracings of golden metallic detail. This heritage design is inspired by a woven silk by Anna Maria Garthwaite (1690-1763), one of the leading pattern drawers in the English silk industry in the 1700s. Anna Maria Garthwaite was born in 1690 and became one of the most successful pattern drawers for English silk. This was despite the likelihood that she did not receive the formal technical training considered necessary to take up the profession. She produced as many as 80 commissioned designs a year, such as this one, for master weavers and mercers. She lived and worked in Spitalfield's, London from about 1730 until her death in 1763.A beautiful illustration, this was found in the archives of the worlds leading museum of art and design: the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The V&A archives hold millions of extraordinary artefacts, including glass, textiles, photography, graphics, jewellery and fashion, offering a wealth of inspiration for exquisite V&A heritage designs with contemporary flair.
